Shower the baby!

We are in that season.

The one where all your friends are having babies.

And that means baby showers.

Here’s the most recent one for the “little man.”

DIY Hair Clips

Remember these? Well they lasted 7 months before she could get to them and pull them off.

So I’ve repurposed them!

They were sitting on the dresser like this …

Still in the same general shape and I thought they’d be cute flowers on a headband.

So I sewed them around where the rubber band was and hot glued felt and a clip on the back.

I can clip them in her hair since it’s long enough already or attach them to a headband (which she obviously wasn’t in the mood for!).

6 months (and change)

She’s growing up so fast!!

I need to start using a real camera instead of my phone because many of the pictures were blurry this time. She’s just moving too much!

This month she’s started sitting up completely by herself and generally only falls forward while reaching for something.

She started holding her bottle (at least that’s what I was told).

She has been locking her knees for a few months now but she stood at the activity toy table holding on by herself for several seconds today!

Just this week she has really started laughing. She was crying during nap time and I went in and she immediately stopped crying so I just stood there staring at her and she started laughing at me! I literally was doing nothing! Why she doesn’t do it when I’m TRYING to make her laugh, I don’t know!

Growing like a champ but still petite. Oh and officially on solids. Peas, carrots, green beans and sweet potatoes (her favorite!).

Her photo shoot was so much fun. The fancy smancy store didn’t have carnations so I had to settle for a spider mum, but it made for quite the entertainment for both of us! Enjoy!

5 months

5 months already!

She’s sitting up (mostly) on her own and prefers sitting up to lying down.

She loves to chat, blow bubbles with her bottom lip sticking out and can grab her paci or Sophie giraffe and put them in her mouth on her own. Oh and she’s the best snuggler!!

I love these pics from her photo shoot. I took a few pics without the flower first and when I added it she got this look on her face like “what in the world is this?! And why is it so close to me?!”. Love it!

Then there was the interruption by the dog…

And then just some really cute ones and an attempt to grab the camera! (I’m amazed at how different she looks in all of them!)

3 months

Julia is 3 months old!

Her new favorite thing is to open her mouth as wide as possible for as long as possible. Especially when you get right up in her face. It’s like she’s giving you the worst cutest kiss ever. You can’t help but laugh every time!

She loves to smile and she’d rather look at you than a toy any day.

The cradle cap is getting better but definitely not gone. At first I thought she had my oily skin. Now I think she has daddy’s dry skin, but hopefully she’ll end up having the perfect balance between the two.

She loves to read and reach for and kick her toys dangling in front of her, but she still doesn’t love tummy time yet. She does it begrudgingly though.

She’d prefer to fall asleep in your arms over anywhere else and loves to be swaddled.

I’m so sad to be going back to work. Not because I’m worried about her. I have full confidence and trust in our daycare. I’m just going to miss hanging out with her!

A bakers dozen

Note to self…

1. Baby acne is real and gross.
2. Cradle cap is real. And gross….brush scalp every day starting day one.
3. You can’t have too many burp rags.
4. You can’t have too many bibs. You can use them even when breastfeeding.
5. SwaddleMe’s are great with long sleeve pjs and sleep gowns. Until she can get her arms out even in long sleeves then…
6. Switch to the Miracle blanket. It rocks. But only when you use it properly. Otherwise you’ll hate it.
7. Placement in a Baby Bjorn immediately after eating leads to spit up all over the both of you.
8. Invest in a soft sling to use in the first couple months.
9. Huggies size one are smaller than Pampers size one.
10. You don’t need a lot of baby winter clothes…footed pjs are enough!
11. You can have too many blankets to start out, but you can’t out grow them so they will eventually all get used.
12. Humidifiers are necessary in the winter.
13. Sound machines rock.

Mama instincts

Yesterday I had put Julia in her crib and turned the mobile on so I could get a couple bottles together.

I was in the kitchen and heard a little cry. Then a scream. I ran down the hall, thought to myself “why am I running? It’s ok if she cries”.

Then I saw the problem. She was in pain. Her precious little hand had clinched the long puff of hair on the crown of her head and was pulling on it and she couldn’t let go. Sweet little girl. It took a sec for me to unwrap her strong little fingers. And three long hairs were tangled in them! Poor thing!

I then wanted to cry. Yes. Seriously. For her pain and because I did the right thing by running to her. That taught me to not second guess myself. If I want to run, great. If I want to let her cry (not the I’m hurt cry though) then that’s fine too. I am learning I have pretty good mommy instincts and that I’m learning her cries. And that feels good.
